On a recent trip to Arkansas, I had the absolute pleasure of spending time at Terra Studios near Fayetteville. What an intriguing and uplifting place to explore! Wandering around the expansive grounds at Terra yielded beautiful surprises everywhere I looked…troll families peeking out of the most unlikely places-along a small brook or welcoming customers at the front door of the shop. The myriad of sculptures were not only eye candy but soul food as well; meaningful pieces of art not only inspired reflection but added beauty to this peaceful sanctuary. A short walk through the art-studded wood where whimsical creatures live ends at the giant stone labyrinth. Several minutes of walking in peaceful meditation was certainly a welcome respite from the worries of everyday life.

After exploring the grounds it was time to visit the gallery and cafe. What a beauteous space: a harmonious balance between an art showplace and a retail shop. Every piece of art was beautiful and beautifully displayed. Everything is hand-made by local artists. The entire Terra staff were extremely knowledgeable and open. I cannot remember the last time I encountered such warmth from a place of business. Perhaps because to all of them it is more, it is their passion and joyful expression of life.
There is something at Terra Studios for everyone’s taste and budget. Had I not had my own budget, I would have needed a truck to bring home all the things I fell in love with! From hand-knitted cotton washcloths, to gorgeous jewelry pieces, to exquisite pottery ranging from whimsical to stunning, wood and bronze sculptures….the choices were endless. And, of course, the famous bluebirds. It was a real treat to get to watch a master craftsman making these small treasures.
And the final touch to making this an absolutely awesome outing? The delicious locally made treats eaten at these crazy, fairy-talesque booths while listening to a local band. (Apparently that’s a weekly Sunday event.)
Thank you to all involved for making Terra Studios the most memorable stop in my whole trip to Arkansas! I can’t wait for my next trip there.
